Well, you asked how I did this? Was rushing around getting ready for church and we were scheduled to greet and there was to be a pot luck afterwards followed by a mission presentation. (2 of our elders had gone to Togo, Af. and had pictures, etc.) I was looking forward to the whole day.. Well, as I had finished a big pot of mixed veg. with Cheese sauce and used the microwave to heat some Turkey and Gravy, was ready to put it in the crockpot. As I lifted the T & Gravy out of the Micro W. (of course I had not paid any attention to the directions..!! and failed to put a plate under the pasteboard box) it collapsed on me and spilled down the inside of my left arm. Ouch. dropped it on the stove and moved quickly to sink next to stove and ran cold water on the gravy to wash it off. Ran out to the hall to get a leaf of Aloe-vera but it hasn't grown much in a year- so wasn't big enough to really do the trick. Pulled some ice out of fridge and dumped it in a bowl and submerged my hand and arm up to elbow. Tried to keep John from seeing the damage, Kept it from him for an hour. But I was kinda woozy.. hadn't had breakfast and the pain was pretty bad. Iced it all that time with a cloth and ice and ice water while I finished getting the food ready. He finally finished dressing and gone out to see about the car.. It was snowing heavily and he was trying to decide if we should go out in the mess. When he came back in I was hanging on to the sink. He thought I'd cut myself... that tells you something.. I'm such a Klutz. So I had to tell him it was a burn. finally he asked to see it and was quite patient about it all. Didn't go ballistic on me like I half expected!! We decided though that I'd better go to the Urgent Care just down the street from us. Grabbed more ice because I expected I'd have to wait. So I had about an hour and a half of 'icing' before the nurse came after me. The Dr. looked at it, ordered a Tetanus shot (more pain than the burn!) However, the Silver sulfadiazine was a burning Sensation, in the worse sort of way. Did the trick though. I'm sure prayer helped more than anything because it has not raised a blister at all. Praise God. Was very deep and got me a lot of attention...That I didn't need! The news spread through most of the facility and the church. Obviously, I didn't get to church but John agreed to take the food, after all my trouble to fix it, and he stayed for the pot luck and mission program, in spite of the snow storm. One lady sent me a note of sympathy, She is so sweet, and heard that I had to go to the hospital with a burn and hoped I'd be up and about soon. That was really funny because it didn't stop me from doing anything after Sunday. The Lord is so good and gave me the strength and help to do all my normal housewifely duties.
Yesterday was Kristal's B/D and I took her out to lunch on Thursday. Friday, yest. her mother came and got her to take her to their place to scrapbook and craft while Grandma and Grandpa V. watched the boys from noon until Johnny got home from work. I made half of her B/D cake before we went over to sit with the kids and then Johnny came home early saying he didn't have any work to do so he'd stay with the boys. I took about 45 minutes after lunch to go downtown and see a Quilt show. It was beautiful and met some of my friends there. Went back to Johnny's and picked up John because Johnny was there by that time and we went shopping for a few things I needed for the cake and groceries on the way home. Today we went with Johnny and the boys to get Kristal and celebrate with her family. The cake was a success.. yellow with apple jelly between layers and caramel icing. Decorated it with some icing pansies I fashioned and walnuts around the edge.
Came home in an Ice storm.. Roads were slick and it was sleeting all the way. Ice was thick on the road and there were several accidents. Got home here after seeing car after car going whopper jawed all over one of the streets we had to maneuver... Johnny only has all weather tires on the van so it took some clever work to get up the grade to our Apt. bldg. He missed the first drive and went on to the second one. So we were kinda prepared for the sheet of ice when we stepped out of the car. Johnny called to me and said to wait until he could walk me to the building. I did and we skated to the door. Ha. Then he went back and got John. What a mess. But we did have a good time all in all.
