The Burn on Rattlesnake Mountain

There was a bad fire on Rattlesnake Mt., the largest of our Saddleback Mountain
Range.

Johnny was on his way to work and passed by the site of the fire and called us to
say that the elk were at the base of the mountain. They feed the elk during the Winter and they have arrived already. So because it was an absolutely beautiful day and perfect for a ride we decided we could afford the gas. I packed a
picnic and we left the apartment about 11:00. The trip took us way out of Richland
about 30 miles going West.

John parked in a turn-out and we crossed
the road to climb an embackment so I
could get a good picture. The top pic was

taken on the way and through the wind-
shield.

We never did see the elk, though. It seems

we didn't go far enough but we did see
most of the mountain. It must be 26 miles or more
across the base so it would have been
quite a jaunt if we had gone far enough to
view them.

These mountains are so different. The burn seemed to accentuate the crevices and various formations of the mountain.
